ELX Triptych in Lendava – International project of electroacoustic music – Sonotopija, March 18th 2026

By presenting it in the Eastern Cohesion Region, the project contributes to the dissemination of the cultural program and a unique musical aesthetic, and encourages the development of decentralized cultural and artistic activity, connecting public institutions and non-governmental organizations. This type of cooperation is essentially based on the exchange of ideas and includes artists who are actively working in the contemporary art of the 21st century: Mauricio Valdés San Emeterio, Ida Hiršenfelder, Patrick K.-H., Tilen Lebar, Borut Savski, Bojana Šaljić Podešva, Daniel Teruggi and Brane Zorman.

In cooperation with Institute ON Rizom, Zavod CONA, Floating Sound Gallery Vienna, KID PiNA, KKC Lendava and Galeriy – museum Lendava Vas Glasbena šola Lendava – Zeneiskola Lendva.

Borut Savski: Tree of Life

Six wooden resonant bodies spaced apart from each other under the ceiling, with a bundle of electrical wires connected to a computer and a subwoofer. In the middle of the vertical bundle is an eye that observes the immediate surroundings and suggests changes to the sound algorithm/artificial organism. The eye, of course, needs a camera, because the artificial eye cannot see – it is only an image of an eye. It is similar with a tree – a vertically arranged structure, above in a virtual crown of sound objects, below with heavier elements and an electricity supply – at most it resembles a tree. However, a tree is one of the basic archetypes, which contains broader meanings: the position of a person (the tree is bigger), human transience (the tree lives longer), shelter and the like. Therefore, in connection with a tree -. in the human imagination – the image of a father can appear. And the eye of God…

A computer program makes a score, but its function is not allegorically narrative – it has no beginning or end – it only dictates larger or smaller random changes. The basis of sound is pure frequencies – sinewaves – mathematical sinusoids that chase and intertwine with each other. This produces intermodulations in the listener’s ear, which means the enrichment of sound with new frequencies that do not exist in the space itself. Surprisingly: an idea of additional materialization of sound appears – within the listener’s perceptual apparatus.

The generative and interactive system is based on autopoietic theory (a late part of cybernetic theory), which extends the definition of living to phenomena (weather, society, …) – and things. Living is that which adapts to its surroundings and tries to maintain the basic parameters that define it during its life (production of sound, observation of the surroundings and changing the sound, the interconnection of all elements into a kind of tree).

Borut Savski (1960) is an intermedia artist who places great emphasis on sound – while simultaneously using technical solutions for unusual instruments and autonomous sound and visual structures/ sculptures. The microsocial situations in which he enters and/or creates are closely related to this. The basic approach is at the level of metaphors – points where transfers/ translations of meanings/ motives /motivations between different discoursive fields occur. Artistic production is always parallel and intertwined with other production. Technology, programming, music, a view of society. In recent years, a preoccupation with tactile interfaces and interactively generated video/ sound/ music. Various and numerous collaborations, organizations and co-organizations of events/ festivals. A lot of work has recently been done in the program of the artistic initiative Cirkulacija 2 in Ljubljana, where the concept of collaborative research and experimental art is being implemented.
